Question by Jonathan J: What is the best city to live in if you want to perform opera?
My wife is an excellent opera singer, and we try to move somewhere colder than Texas, that is still relatively affordable. We know New York City is good, but we are not really interested in the NY life. What to consider some other large cities?

What kind if opera does she sing? European cities are the obvious choice, especially Italy and Germany where the provincial cities often have a livelier opera scene than major US centres. If she has a lighter voice more suited to operetta, then add France to the list and maybe delete Italy, as Italians tend to go for big voices. London is a good all-round choice.
However, it would be unwise to try Europe without solid peparation and good introductions from agents and music teachers, plus a performance record.
