What’s the difference between Internet Explorer and FireFox? Why do people say I should switch to FireFox?
Posted by admin on May 13th, 2010
Every time I call for tech support they tell me I should switch to FireFox! Even when it has nothing to do with the internet. What are the differences, I want specifics, not vague answers like: It’s better or safer.
I have a Toshiba Satellite L355-S7817 Laptop.

In my opinion the performance differences, which is what you really are seeking, are not that much.
Most people prefer one over the other based upon their comfort level with using the browser. They believe one is better than the other but it is more feeling and perception than reality.
You will hear some state that one is faster or more stable than the other. However this is highly unlikely.
Either will do; select the one you feel is most suitable for you based on comfort.
Firefox has everything to do with the internet. Its a web browser, like Internet Explorer. Firefox is much faster the IE, and it is also far more secure. IE has huge security gaps, allowing worms and other malware to get into your system. Not to say that you cant get malware in firefox, but it warns you of attempts to invade your system with malware. You will have an overall greater experience using firefox over internet explorer. If you have not tried it yet i suggest you do.

Whether it’s better is mainly a matter of personal taste. Some people prefer one, some the other. Firefox is reputed to be quicker, I’m not so sure about that. I find IE opens far faster. IE7 uses ActiveX which is often maliciously exploited. Firefox doesn’t, so Firefox is often claimed to be safer. Prior to IE7 it was, but IE7 and Firefox are pretty comparable in regards to safety.
If you use a free add-on, NoScript, with Firefox it will make your pc a lot safer. Many ‘good’ websites, such as CNN, The Economist, Huffington Post, Facebook, MySpace, etc, etc, etc, have been hit by various forms of malicious exploits. NoScript will prevent most of these exploits from invading your pc. There’s also a great many other add-ons available for Firefox which aren’t available for IE, so it can be customised to suit your needs.
Fire fox has better add-ons/plug-ins (https://addons. mozilla. org/en-US/firefox/), more customizable, less robust (smaller program – runs cleaner and quicker to install), and is less susceptible to spyware and viruses for starters. More malicious code is written for IE.
A couple of personal examples:
I was doing a online image map and could only do about individual coordinates before I would get a stacking error. I used fire fox and never had a problem.
I loaded an add-on that allows you to record youtube vids and mp3′s right in the browser. IE does not have this (that I know of – tech changes so quickly). Fire fox has a lot of little fun attributes like this.
I appreciate how Fire Fox lists your bookmarks in the url bar as you are typing into it. IE does it also, but it doesn’t display as much info as you are typing.
The people at Mozilla (Fire Fox) seem to respond to issues quicker than those at IE. When you do updates any problems are take care of.
I could keep going on with a list of things that are better than IE but I’m tired of typing. The type of laptop that you own doesn’t really make a difference.
Oh and It’s better and safer.
If you want specifics you have to understand the specifics.
Firefox is W3C-compliant, IE isn’t. You’ll have to understand http://www. positioniseverything. net/ for the specifics.
Firefox is more useful (the number of add-ons is unbelievable).
Firefox is faster (it’s smaller and better code; if you want specifics for that you’ll have to understand program coding – raw computer doce isn’t going to mean anything to you otherwise).
And those are only a few reasons, out of many.
Oh – and Firefox doesn’t throw page errors in your face – if you aren’t running an add-on to see them, it just ignores them. IE, OTOH, stops you dead if there’s a page error, and asks you if you want to debug it. Now, honestly, do you really want to debug someone else’s web site?
Internet Explorer is a prodeuct of Microsoft, and it has put a number of spy wares that are designed to help buisness partners of Microsoft by blocking their competition or blocking pirated data. FireFox does not have spy ware built in ware which makes work with security ware better making your browser faster, and FireFox has some security built in too.
Alot of movie & music sites don’t work because of Internet Explorer’s ware, and a more bold version of this ware in AOL is what almost killed AOL.
