What are the advantages and disadvantages of rooting an android phone?

Question by Wuffy: What are the advantages and disadvantages of rooting an android phone?
I have a HTC with Android Z 2.2 i wanted to take screen shots, but it looks like I want to root on my phone. So my question is, why would I do it? I will loose my beautiful HTC Sense interface and access to their applications? of the search, I found only apparent advantages, but I’m sure there must be a disadvantage.
