if you said what you clicked, that would help, such as something in a web browser, or a program on your computer, or a shortcut on your computer….
but you can try putting a pop-up blocker in place, heres how for IE:
tools menu–>Internet Opitions–>privacy tab–>check the box at the bottom and click settings–>at the bottom, change the filter settings to “High”–>click ok out of every box, then completely close the web browser–>open it again, and see if the popping stopped…

you also might want to run a virus scan using whatever antivirus program you have (if your using the windows one, get this: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html)
-download avast, close internet connection, disable current antivirus, start avast

    i hope this was helpful

I know you said that you did not want to get software and such but i really do believe if you installed firefox 2 instead of internet explorer you would not have this problem in the first place as their protection i think is yet to be matched.

If you really want to use internet explorer then try restoring the comp to an earlier date prior to clicking on what you did. That is located in start/allprograms/accesories/systemtools/system restore.
