Answer by Middlefinger!
Why would you spend money for a vocal teacher.
Open your mouth and sing in your natural voice.
I’m sure it’s not operatic!
Just do it!

Pat Benatar had operatic training.
opers should have given you a good background for tech. and training, breathing etc.
It can all be used towards any tipe of singing.
Obviously it will be the ” style” in which you sing that you will need to change.
I believe a healthy singing technique is the same, whether you do opera, broadway, jazz or whatever. i guess you can play around with the tone and color of your voice…. good singers, regardless of their style, usually get formal training. it’s up to the singer how to use it. i’m sure you can make the switch. I’m not quite sure what you mean by modern, though… well, good luck!
Use the technique to sing healthy. That’s all you need. the difference is the color and the projection in the voice… same technique. I sing both, Opera and Pop so believe me, I do it all the time.

Why would you want to?
You don’t need a voice teacher to “go modern”. Just use your upper larynx instead of your lower one.
