Does this happen on all websites? Generally speaking, there is no way to stop this from happening. It is written within the HTML code for the web page, and is controlled by the webmaster. Webmasters can have a link open in a new window, if they choose.

Some sites will open new windows, some won’t – whatever the webmaster decided.

    To change this:

Go to Tools>Internet Options and under the General tab, click on the Tabs settings.

From there, check the top box that says Enable Tabbed Browsing.

Close Internet Explorer and reopen it.

Now when you click links, they will open in a new tab, not a new window.

    Cheers!
