Train Chartering Proposes 4 – and 6-Day African Steam Safaris in Luxury; experience 1200 km (746 miles) and 1,600 km (994 miles) steam-hauled journeys.
Rovos Rail has two steam
organizes Tours in gracious luxury through southern Africa. The 4 – and 6-day Steam Safaris are unique long-distance trips of special interest to anyone who loves the subcontinent, steam trains and luxury rail travel. Both tours are steam-air for the entire trip, with two run pasts each day.
The 4-day Steam Safari leaves Rovos Rail’s Capital Park Station in Pretoria for a 1,200 km journey. The train is hauled by historic Class 25NC locomotives through the gold-rich Highveld to the Free State, with a stop in Bloemfontein with its many cultural and historical attractions. The Steam Safari then further south in the Eastern Cape, calling at the Addo Elephant Park, home to over 450 elephants, Cape buffalo and antelope, as well. The trip ends in Port Elizabeth.
The 4-day safari starts from Steam R 18 285 per person.
The 6-day Steam Safari is an extraordinary 1600 km long, pulled by historic Class 19D & GMAM locomotives. The latter Garratt No. 4079, is on loan from Sandstone Estates. The Steam Safari departs from Victoria Falls train station, heading south towards Thompson Junction. There is a game drive in Hwange Game reserve and a trip to Bulawayo. Enjoy cross the ancient sight of African baobab trees, the Tropic of Capricorn and the majestic Soutpansberg Mountains view before visiting Polokwane. The train of the final destination of Capital Park Station, Pretoria.
The 6-day Steam Safari is from R 19 995 per person.
