Firefox Users Unexpectedly Lose Functionality with Upgrade to Version 1.5

Boston, Massachusetts (openPR) 5 December 2005

Many users update the increasingly popular Firefox browser to version 1.5 functions on which they depend to lose daily business tasks. Only users who have thoroughly read through the technical “Release Notes” about the possible loss of functionality warned. Other users say is that these functions are missing after the upgrade.

“I was caught in the excitement over the release, not knowing I was one step forward and two steps back,” said Donald French, a Firefox user and President of the Institute for Advanced Professional Studies in Boston, Massachusetts.

Firefox allows users to add the functionality of their browser through the use of “add-ons”, also called extensions or plug-ins. They will grow an integral part of the browser from the perspective of the user and users to depend on them.

Firefox blocked the installation of an extension, if not this version of the browser. From a technical point of view, this requirement compatibility a good idea, preventing the browser from the operating unreliable because of incompatible extensions. From a user perspective, it is an unpleasant surprise to find only a reduced functionality after the upgrade.

“Over 25% of my extensions were no longer available. It was quite a shock and a disappointment to learn that my newer browser from a number of important functions. The previous version was good enough and worth keeping until the required extensions was compatible with the new version of Firefox, “said French. “Before update, Firefox users should check to see whether substantial functionality will remain. What is needed, a warning about the possible loss of features and an up-to-date list of compatible add-ons. If there were a list, I have not the “see,” said French.

Once upgraded, Firefox provides a list of extensions are disabled from the previous version along with the extensions active in the current version. Hopefully it will soon require extensions compatible with version 1.5.
